Referrals
Once someone has been referred to us by their doctor or the Hospital Team our four nurses work together with other care professionals and doctors to provide holistic care. This care extends to the patient’s family and loved ones. People can be referred by their GP or their carers or can refer themselves with their GP’s agreement.
Welcome to Sidmouth Hospiscare
We provide specialist palliative care and support to people who have been diagnosed with a life threatening or life limiting illness. We do not have facilities for patients to stay at May Terrace as our aim is to support patients within their own homes with regular visits.

Other Support
We support patients and their families throughout this difficult time offering a wider service which includes volunteer drivers, bereavement counsellors and sitters.

Home
Palliative Care
Palliative care means we try to control pain, alleviate symptoms and give patients the best possible quality of life for those with a progressive illness.

Nurses
The nurses work shifts so that a nurse is available every day of the week and so that one of them can also be on-call during the night. This support hopefully enables patients to remain in their own homes surrounded by familiar things and people.
The Charity
We are a local independent Charity, number 292609, maintaining our service solely through donations and legacies. Our nurses are employed by Exeter Hospiscare through whom they receive their training and advice, though all of their costs are funded by Sidmouth Hospiscare.
Funding
Although Exeter Hospiscare and the Hospiscare shop raise money in the area, the actual cost of providing the service in Sidmouth is fully funded by Sidmouth Hospiscare, a charity in its own right. The cost of the service is somewhere in the region of £300,00.00 per year, and it is due to the generosity of our supporters that we are able to meet these costs.
Trustees
We are managed by volunteer trustees who meet once every three months to monitor, support and take decisions on the whole service.
Free Service
This service is free of charge and available to patients who are registered with Sidmouth GPs.
Special Financial Circumstances
In special circumstances we can sometimes help with funding for those that are struggling financially due to their illness, from a legacy that was generously donated for this purpose.
We are also able to occasionally finance things such as respite care. We also sponsor a bed at Sidmouth Hospital who provide some of our patients with wonderful care if the occasion arises.
Logo
Our Logo was chosen out of several entries in response to an appeal by the Sidmouth Hospiscare Committee when the service first started. They wanted a logo that could be used on their letterheads and other corresondence. It was designed by Mrs Melanie Toogood of Sidmouth. The judges felt that it was simple, attractive to the eye and easy to print. It also summed up Sidmouth Hospiscare's aim of 'care in the home' for those that choose this, by showing a house instead of a hospital.
